Finance isn't just abstract pricing models — it's an industry of institutions that channel money through the real economy, and this course examines how those institutions actually work and how they're being rebuilt by technology. You'll move through banking fundamentals, dissect the policy responses to the 2008 crisis and COVID, then look at how fintech firms are reshaping lending, payments, and insurance, mostly through cases rather than problem sets (15 case studies plus a final). It's a useful capstone-style elective after the core finance sequence, especially if you're considering banking, fintech, or regulatory work where understanding institutional plumbing matters as much as valuation.

Course Learning Outcomes: Course Learning Outcome Assessment Students will be able to explain and discuss the critical role of financial services firms, ranging from large banks to small fintech startups. Students will be able to articulate the fundamentals of banking. Students will be able to assess critically the unprecedented response of governments to stabilize the financial system during the Global Financial Crisis and COVID-19 Pandemic. Students will be able to explain the use of technolog
