Abstract Mathematics I

The real subject here is the transition from doing mathematics to writing it: you stop computing answers and start producing arguments that hold up under scrutiny. Expect weekly problem sets and quizzes built around proofs — induction, set-theoretic constructions, equivalence relations, and cardinality arguments like Cantor's diagonal — culminating in serious questions about countability and the size of the continuum. As one of the first required math courses, it's the gateway for everything proof-based that follows (analysis, algebra, topology), and the language and habits you build in it are what those later courses quietly assume you already have.
