Strategic Behavior and Competition

This course applies industrial organization economics to strategic decision-making, treating competition as a game where firms anticipate rivals' moves rather than just reacting to market conditions. You'll work through Harvard Business School cases (Beauregard Textile, Yamato Transport, Radiohead, PS3 vs Xbox), industry reports with guest speakers, and a take-home final, using tools like oligopoly models, entry deterrence, and tacit collusion to diagnose real competitive situations. It sits at the intersection of microeconomics and strategy, giving MBA students a rigorous framework for the pricing, positioning, and bargaining problems that show up later in consulting, corporate strategy, and regulatory contexts.
