MBG 101 is the entry point into molecular biology, where the goal is to see life as a system of molecules running the central dogma — DNA, RNA, and proteins interacting through cells, genes, and immune or developmental programs. Alongside the lectures, you spend the semester in the lab actually doing it: isolating DNA, running gels, cloning and transforming, culturing cells, and purifying proteins, with lab reports, quizzes, two midterms, and an open-book final tying it together. As the foundation MBG course, it sets the vocabulary and bench instincts every later course — genetics, biochemistry, cell biology — quietly assumes you already have.
