Genetics

Genetics 210 is where you stop memorizing Punnett squares and start reasoning about how information flows from alleles to phenotypes to populations, spanning Mendel's peas all the way to molecular evolution. Expect two midterms and a final built around written problem-solving, weekly homeworks, and a heavy lab component where you actually run zebrafish ache crosses, score Drosophila monohybrid and dihybrid crosses across generations, and write formal reports on what you see. It's the gateway course for the MBG major: the chromosome theory, linkage mapping, and population genetics you build here are assumed background for molecular biology, developmental genetics, and bioinformatics electives in years 3 and 4.
