Introduction to Modern Biology

Modern biology is built on the idea that life, from a single cell to entire populations, runs on molecules and information, and this course walks you through that hierarchy: chemistry, cells, inheritance, gene regulation, and evolution as the thread tying it all together. Expect lecture-driven work backed by weekly quizzes, two midterms, a final, and a homework set, with films like GATTACA used to anchor the genetics material. Although non-MBG students often take it as a science elective, for the department it's the conceptual launching pad, you'll lean on this framing in genetics, molecular biology, and biochemistry courses later in the curriculum.
