MSC 231

Instrument III

The third semester of one-on-one principal instrument study, where the focus shifts from building raw technique to shaping interpretation, reading a piece's period, harmonic logic, and articulation choices, then translating that understanding into a controlled, musical performance. You meet your instructor weekly, work through a progressively harder assigned repertoire, and are graded almost entirely through live practical juries at midterm and final. It sits in the middle of the four-year applied sequence, bridging the mechanical fluency built in Instrument I-II with the more autonomous, stylistically aware playing expected in upper-year recitals and ensemble work.
