Instrument IV

The fourth semester of one-on-one applied lessons on your principal instrument, where the work shifts from simply executing pieces to interpreting them, connecting what you know about a composer, period, and the harmonic and rhythmic logic of a score to actual sound under your fingers. You meet weekly with your instructor, prepare assigned repertoire, and are evaluated entirely through practical juries (two midterm performances plus a final). It picks up directly where MSC 231 left off and feeds into the more demanding MSC 331/332 sequence, so the technical and musicianship habits you build here are what every later performance class assumes you already have.
