The fifth semester of one-on-one instrumental study, where the focus shifts from acquiring technique to using it expressively — reading a score not just accurately but with awareness of period, style, and the composer's intent. You meet weekly with your instructor, work through a progressively harder repertoire list, and are graded entirely on how you actually play: two practical midterms and a practical final, no written exams. By this point the mechanics should be largely under your fingers, so the real work is interpretive — making informed musical decisions and solving the technical problems that get in the way of them.
