Chamber Music VI

The sixth installment in the chamber music sequence shifts the focus toward Romantic and contemporary repertoire, with Brahms's chamber works serving as the anchor for analytical and interpretive study. You'll spend the term rehearsing and performing assigned pieces in your ensemble, graded almost entirely through practical juries — two at the midterm, one at the final — so the real work happens in the practice room and in coordinating with your partners. By this stage the technical fundamentals are assumed; the course is really about learning to read a score as a chamber player, balancing your voice against others, and taking interpretive responsibility for how the music actually sounds in performance.
