Chamber Music V

The fifth chamber music studio narrows the lens to early Romantic repertoire — Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn — where the technical demands of the previous studios give way to questions of style, phrasing, and ensemble voice that define the period. You spend the term rehearsing assigned works with your group, with two practical midterm juries and a final performance as the only assessments, so almost everything happens in the rehearsal room rather than on paper. It builds directly on the earlier MSC chamber sequence and feeds into the concert practice expected of performance majors, with the real point being learning to lead and yield within an ensemble rather than just execute your own part.
