Dance I

A studio-based introduction to contemporary modern dance built around the Allan Wayne Work tradition and real-time composition, where the real subject is learning to read your own body — how weight, momentum, and breath translate into legible movement. Most of your time is spent on the floor: following set choreography in the first half of the semester, then shifting toward guided improvisations alone and in trios, with a midterm and a final assessed as live performance rather than written work. It sits in the practical wing of the Performing Arts curriculum as the entry point to embodied technique, giving you the movement vocabulary that later choreography, acting, and staging courses assume you already have.
