Phonetics I

Phonetics I is the foundation of stage speech training: you learn to treat your mouth, tongue, and breath as instruments you can consciously control, so that every sound you produce on stage is intentional rather than accidental. The semester is built around the International Phonetic Alphabet, you'll transcribe and drill vowels, consonants, diphthongs, explosives, and implosives, then apply them to Turkish texts in studio exercises, with two midterms and a final checking your ear and articulation. As a first-semester required course for performing arts students, it sets up the diction work that every later acting and voice course assumes you already have under control.
