Building on the IPA foundations from THR 111, this second semester turns phonetic transcription into an actual stage tool: you take the articulation of vowels and consonants, plus stress and intonation patterns, and apply them to demanding dramatic verse. Most of the term is spent transcribing and speaking through Ancient Greek drama in the first half and Shakespeare in the second, with class time split between lecture and practical studio work on clarity, breath, and rhythm. The point is to train your ear and mouth so that by the time you hit acting and voice courses later in the program, pronunciation is a deliberate choice rather than an accident of habit.
