Educational Research

CI 507 is a graduate-level introduction to how educational claims get made and defended, when a question calls for numbers versus narratives, what counts as valid evidence, and how to read a study critically rather than just consuming its conclusions. You'll work through the full research pipeline (framing questions, reviewing literature, choosing a design, sampling, building instruments, analyzing data) across the major quantitative and qualitative traditions, with extra weight on action research and a take-home midterm plus several coursework pieces that mirror real study-design tasks. It's the methodological backbone for thesis work and any later course where you have to produce or evaluate empirical claims about teaching and learning.
