Advanced Consecutive Interpretation I

Consecutive interpretation is really about hearing a speech once, holding its logic in your head, and rebuilding it in another language minutes later, so this course trains the underlying machinery (active listening, idea segmentation, memory anchoring, and a personal note-taking system) before worrying about polish. You'll work through Gillies' seven-pillar note-taking method and drill on authentic conference recordings that get progressively longer, denser, and more technical, with four practical midterms and two practical finals where you actually interpret. It's the entry point to the conference-interpreting track, laying the foundation that simultaneous and specialized interpretation courses later assume you already own.
