Drawing I builds the foundational habit every studio artist needs: training your eye to actually see what's in front of you, then translating that perception onto paper with control over line, value, and proportion. You'll spend most of your time in the studio working from observation — contour and gesture exercises, negative-space studies, value and shading drills, and figure work from a live model — across pencil, charcoal, ink, and brush, with three projects and a portfolio review anchoring the assessment. As a first-semester requirement for Fine Arts, it's the technical groundwork that later painting, figure, and composition courses assume you already have.
