Foundation Studio I

Foundation Studio I is where you learn to see — training your eye to read compositions as deliberate arrangements of point, line, plane, value, and texture rather than just "pictures." The semester is almost entirely studio work: a rapid sequence of short projects (roughly fifteen of them, plus a research-driven icon design at the end) where you produce, pin up, and defend your decisions in crits. As the first-semester anchor for FADA students, it builds the visual vocabulary and deadline discipline you'll rely on in every subsequent design, architecture, or interior studio, and the Gestalt-based thinking introduced here quietly underlies everything from typography to spatial composition later in the program.
