ME 384 is where mechanical engineers stop treating electronics as a black box and start building the bridge between physical hardware and the code that controls it, working up from op-amps and transistors through digital logic to microcontrollers driving real actuators. Most of your time goes into lab sessions and a semester project where you prototype an actual electro-mechanical system, backed by two written midterms and a quiz on the theory. It sits at the junction where ME meets EE, and the microcontroller and sensor-interfacing instincts you build here are what later courses on control, robotics, and capstone design assume you already have.

A one-time exception will be made (because of the recent curriculum change) to students who have not previously passed CS115 but wish to enroll in ME384. Such students will be allowed to take CS115 and ME384 as co-requisite courses in the Fall 2025/2026
