Note-Taking and Consecutive Interpretation in English

Consecutive interpretation is the craft of listening to a speaker deliver several minutes of English or Turkish, holding the meaning in your head with the help of a sparse symbolic notation, and then re-expressing it cleanly in the other language once they stop. You will spend the semester drilling Rozan's seven note-taking principles and Gillies' system on pedagogically graded speeches, building from TR-TR exercises up to live ENG-TR delivery assessed on a midterm, two projects, and a final. It sits between your earlier comprehension and translation courses and the simultaneous interpreting work that follows, where the analysis-and-re-expression reflex you build here becomes the foundation everything else depends on.
