Introduction to Interpersonal Communication (in French)

TRIN 339 traite la communication interpersonnelle comme une compétence pratique en français : comment ajuster registre (tu/vous), ton et stratégies de politesse selon le contexte, surtout professionnel. Le cours est mené en mode séminaire, donc vous passerez la plupart du temps à faire — simulations d'entretiens, jeux de rôle, rédaction de lettres formelles, CV, lettres de motivation, comptes rendus — avec deux examens pratiques (mi-semestre et final) qui évaluent vos compétences en situation plutôt que vos connaissances théoriques. C'est moins un cours de langue qu'un atelier de savoir-faire communicationnel : utile si votre français est déjà solide et que vous visez un stage, un échange ou une carrière où il faudra écrire et négocier en français.

Introduction to interpersonal communication. Distinguish spoken vs. written communication. Identifying register (tu/vous, formality), intention and cultural expectations.

Hafta 2

Basic principles of oral communication. Analysis verbal and nonverbal language in conversation (introduction, greetings, small talks, first impressions). Comparison with professional context.

Hafta 3

Discourse in conversation. Manage turn-taking, filler words in a conversation in French.

Hafta 4

Practice on introducing oneself in a professional context.

Hafta 5

Writing formal letters in French (complaints, requests, application letters etc.) Rules and principles (Structure, tone, openings/closing formula).

Hafta 6

Practices on writing for professional purposes, professional correspondence in French.

Hafta 7

Preparing CV / Résumé in French. Presenting professional background/career, usage of appropriated vocabulary.

Hafta 8

Preparing cover letter in French. Identifying how to argument structure and demonstrate skills and motivation.

Hafta 9

Job Interviews. Preparing for a job interview. Considering common questions and answers. Usage of professional politeness strategies.

Midterm

Hafta 11

Writing a report/minutes. Reformulating and summarizing oral speech, identifying main ideas/messages, reformulating with a neutral tone.

Hafta 12

Formulate requests, apologies and request for assistance. Usage of proper language, tone in French. Dealing with miscommunication (conflict and repair).

Hafta 13

In class practices: simulation of crisis.

Hafta 14

Final Project Workshop: Preparing a file for professional purposes.
