Note-Taking and Consecutive Interpretation in French

TRIN 323 trains you to do what looks impossible the first time you try it: listen to a three-to-five minute French speech, take symbolic notes that capture meaning rather than words, and then deliver the whole thing back in Turkish without losing the speaker's logic or tone. You'll work through Gillies and Rozan's note-taking systems in class, recording your own consecutive renditions of progressively longer speeches (FR→TR), with quizzes, a project, and audio submissions tracking your progress alongside the midterm and final. It's the bridge between the comprehension-heavy translation courses earlier in the program and the simultaneous interpreting work that follows, where the real test is whether your notes still make sense to you ten minutes after you wrote them.
