CHEM 232 picks up where the first organic course left off and shifts the focus from memorizing reactions to actually reasoning about them — given an unknown compound and a spectrum, what is it, and given a target molecule, how would you build it? You'll spend the semester pushing electrons through mechanisms, interpreting NMR and mass spec data, and working through multi-step syntheses involving alcohols, ethers, conjugated systems, and aromatics. It's the second half of the organic sequence required for chemistry, biology, and MBG students, and the mechanistic and spectroscopic fluency you build here is what later biochemistry and medicinal-chemistry courses quietly assume you already have.
