Organic Chemistry Laboratory I

This is where organic chemistry stops being something you read about and becomes something you do with your hands — learning how to actually isolate, purify, and identify organic compounds rather than just push arrows on paper. Each week you run one classic technique (recrystallization, distillation, extraction, TLC and column chromatography, IR, and a couple of real syntheses like making 1-bromobutane via SN2), then write it up as a formal lab report and sit a short quiz on the underlying theory. It runs alongside CHEM 233, and the techniques you build here are the everyday toolkit you'll lean on in CHEM 236 and in any later synthesis or research lab work.
