Physical Chemistry I

Physical Chemistry I is where the math you learned in calculus and the molecular picture you built in general chemistry collide into a predictive framework: given a system, can you tell which direction it will spontaneously go, and how far? You work through Atkins problem sets on gases, the laws of thermodynamics, free energies, phase diagrams, mixtures, and electrochemical cells, assessed through three quizzes, two midterms, and a final. It's the thermodynamics half of the physical chemistry sequence, the foundation you'll lean on in kinetics, quantum chemistry, and any later course where equilibrium or energy balance shows up.
