FA 201 is where you stop following exercises and start building an actual artistic voice, working across sculpture, ceramics, mosaics, and painting/printmaking to figure out what you have to say and how you want to say it. Most of your time is spent in studio producing pieces, sketches, and maquettes, then defending them in regular crits before a final jury and exhibition. As the first of the Art Studio sequence, it sets the foundation for everything that follows in the program—the techniques are the vocabulary, but the real work is learning to talk about your own choices intelligently.
