PSYC 498 is where you stop being a student of psychology and start acting like one, picking an advisor, narrowing a literature, and turning a vague curiosity into a testable research question. The semester is structured around building a full research proposal in APA form: weeks of focused reading, then hypothesis generation, study design, materials, a pilot, and finally drafted introduction and method sections. It is the proposal half of your senior thesis, paired with PSYC 499 in the spring where you actually run the study and write it up, and it is the moment when everything from statistics to cognition to social psych has to converge into one defensible plan.
