MATH 242 is the second-semester engineering math course that pulls together the analytical tools you'll lean on for the rest of your degree: solving ODEs (by hand and numerically), doing calculus in several variables, and working with functions of a complex variable up through residues. Most of the work is problem-solving — weekly homework plus quizzes that drill computation (Runge-Kutta, Lagrange multipliers, Cauchy's theorem, Laurent expansions) rather than proofs. It builds directly on MATH 241 and feeds into nearly every upper-level engineering course, since circuit analysis, fluids, signals, and control theory all assume you can handle complex integrals and multivariable calculus fluently.
