Where Math 223 stopped at eigenvalues and diagonalization, this course pushes into the structural side of linear operators: when diagonalization fails, what canonical form replaces it (Jordan, rational), and how inner products let you talk about geometry, adjoints, and spectral theorems for the well-behaved operators (normal, hermitian, unitary). Work is theorem-driven from Hoffman & Kunze, with regular homework, two midterms, and a final, mostly proof-and-computation problems rather than labs. It's the algebraic backbone behind functional analysis, quantum mechanics, numerical methods, and basically anywhere finite-dimensional structure shows up later.
