MATH 220

Linear Algebra

Linear algebra is the language for talking about everything that's "linear", systems of equations, geometric transformations, and the spaces they act on, and this course builds that language from matrices and Gaussian elimination up through abstract vector spaces, inner products, and the eigenvalue/Jordan-form machinery. Expect weekly problem sets and a quiz alongside the midterm and final, with most of the work being by-hand computation tied to conceptual proofs about bases, rank, and diagonalization. It's a second-year requirement that quietly underwrites almost everything later: differential equations, numerical analysis, quantum mechanics, optimization, ML, once you see a matrix as a linear map, those courses stop feeling like separate subjects.
